William MCCONNELL and Letitia FOSTER
« on: Thursday 12 February 04 01:30 GMT (UK) »
Looking for information on William MCCONNELL b. 1820 Ballyvernstown, Antrim and Letitia FOSTER b. 1816 Antrim.  They married abt 1854 and had 9 children (John, James, William, Harriet, Hugh, Mary, Thomas, Elizabeth and Joseph).

They all migrated to Victoria after arriving in Australia on the 'Great Britain'. One of the children died before or during the migration.  Letitia passed away 1891 and William in 1905.

I do not have alot on this family, especially from the Ireland side. Looking for any info, especially on who William and Letitia's parents are.

I AM ALSO A DIRECT DESCENDANT OF WILLIAM AND LETITIA MCCONNELL THROUGH THEIR DAUGHTER ELIZABETH. I AM ALSO INTERESTED IN FINDING OUT INFORMATION ABOUT THEIR GRANDPARENTS.
WILLIAM' FATHER WAS  CALLED WILLIAM THOMAS AND HIS MOTHER WAS ELIZABETH. I DON'T KNOW HER SURNAME. LETITIA'S PARENTS WERE JOSEPH FOSTER AND HARRIET SEMPLE.

Hi,

I am a direct descendant of William and Letitia's son John.

I don't have alot of information on the family but am willing to share anything you don't have. I also do not know his mother's surname. None of my info is sourced so it may be incorrect, i haven't had a chance to verify anything yet. I also have some info that was emailed to me on the McConnell's but haven't had a chance to go through it all yet. I could send that to you via email if you wanted to have a look at it.
Feel free to ask any questions you have and if i can answer them i will. I will give you my email in case you want it......

Hi,

Would any of the listers writing about Willam McCONNELL know if he had a sister Agnes born 1841 at Ballyclare, Antrim.

I notice the town Ballyerstown,  should that be Ballyeastern.

My Agnes's parents were William Mc CONNELL & Margaret TODD, they married in  Ballyeastern 1833.

Ballyeastern & Ballyclare are very close together, about a mile apart I've been told.

Cheers
Geoff

Hi,

When did the family leave Ireland? Were they married in Ireland and were some of the children born in Antrim? There is a William McConnell in Ballyvernstown Glynn Co Antrim in the Griffiths Valuation.

I think the catholic parish is Larne.

Some baptismal records are available from 1821 at the National Library in Dublin. Also marriages. This could lead to William McConnell parents and siblings details.

Hi Kate,

The information and documents I have indicate that Agnes came to Australia as a single woman.
She married on the voyage out in May1859.
I have searched every ship that arrived here in that year but cannot find them on any passenger list.

At this stage I have no idea if any of her family came with her or followed later.

Cheers

Hi,

Unfortunately the baptismal records from BallyClare start in 1869.
