Hi,
We just got a copy of my husband's grandfather's marriage record (in 1926 to Mildred Firth), and it has his residence as Port Talbot at the time, even though the marriage was in the Bath registry office.   We weren't aware that the family had ever lived in that area.   Does anyone have any information of a Thomas Broadfoot or a David Broadfoot in this area?

Could you please post your Grandfathers and Great Grandfathers names, which is which, and perhaps any other information which may help trace them in the 1901 census. eg.Great Grandmothers name, years of births, siblings etc.

Hi Nicky,
 
Grandfather's name is David John Broadfoot.  He was born about 1903. 
He married Mildred Firth in 1926 in the Bath Registry Office, age listed as 22, residence Port Talbot.  His father is listed as Thomas Broadfoot on this marriage certificate, occupation stone dresser.  That's as much as we know about the great-grandfather.  We also have found the record where David Broadfoot immigrated to Canada in 1929.  His age on that record is listed as 23, so unless dates/ages are wrong it seems that perhaps he was born in April between 6th and 21st in 1903??  I've been unable to find any birth record for him at all!  David then came back to England and tied at age 35 of TB.   We believe that David Broadfoot may have had a brother named Robert.   
 
I think this is absolutely all we have on David and Thomas.  Hope it's enough to find something with --

We'd found Mildred's birth record on freebmd.   It seems strange that we can't find any record of David's birth at all, since he was born the next year after her, and was in the same general area, at least by the year of their marriage. His residence at Port Talbot in 1926 from their marriage certificate is what made us think maybe he was born in Wales instead of Bath or Bristol as we'd originally thought.
Oh well, still looking...

Have you considered the possibility he was Scottish.
There appear to be three David Broadfoot births born1902/1904 including one David John.
