A mystery of grand proportions. Can anyone help?
« on: Friday 21 July 06 07:05 BST (UK) »
On the BBC message board there is a lady looking for help finding details on her fathers birth parents & a huge amount of work has been done by Grumpyjaywit & Sherlockslovechild (forgive me if I've got the names wrong, I'm typing them from memory) I think they're needing all the help they can get as the most possible connection has just tumbled!
Can anyone spare the time to take a look & lend a hand?
Link is http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbhistory/F2233810?thread=3255389&skip=0&show=20 started by Bashfulblossom.
Links to Engelthwaite Hall (sometimes spelt englethwaite) boys home in Cotehill near Carlisle.
I'm sure they'd appreciate some input (anyone who was at/worked at the home (1938-1944 I think the dates are), anyone with local knowledge of what areas the boys generally came from, general local knowledge and any birth tracing helpful folks.
It's a fascinating story..........
All the best & happy Friday

Hi woodydog,

Read the entire thread - fabulous!!  I can't post to the BBC thread itself as am not a member, but noticed the new Canada connection.  There are a bunch of us from Canada here on Rootschat.  Can we help?  If we could get the address of John Rogers from the will we might be able to dig something up.  (Although they are right that we have much longer restrictions on BMDs).

Please send a message to Bashfulrogers or Sherlock!!

Hi Woodydog,

Have you been able to keep up with Bashfulrogers thread, on the BBC message board.

Another break through today, oh I would love to be in the Rogers family home this Saturday, just to see Bagful's dads face!

I wont mention any details just in case, I don't what to spoil it for you.

With Best Wishes

Thanks for the update notification FB!  How lovely for them!  This story has been gripping indeed.  It seems that Sherlock was very sucessful in his Canada research - I don't think any of us here would have had as much success in such a short time  ;D  So nice to see the happy ending...
