Census for Guensey 1841- 1851

Was there a census taken in those years, if not sorry for bothering you all.
if yes then maybe you can help.

We are looking for a family called Moore.

William Mitchell Moore   head  Soldier / Military/ staff sargent  age about 35 in 1841 Born Norwich Norfolk

Hannah Moore  wife  Born Norfolk  age approx 35 in 1841

Daniel William Moore son  about  7 yrs old in 1861   born Guernsey

Maybe other children who were born in Tasmania.

His army record which you can order from The National Achives will give you some information as to his whereabouts in 1841 and 1851.

WO 97/1041/111 WILLIAM MITCHEL MOORE Born NORWICH, Norfolk Served in 94th Foot Regiment; 96th Foot Regiment Discharged aged 43 1823-1851.

Thanks for that Valda, we have all his records, but Guernsey is not listed so it must have been a quick stay.

I have searched the 1841 CI census on-line at  http://members.shaw.ca/jerseymaid/index/html  but no sign of this family.

If you look up the 94th and 96th Regiments at www.regiments.org/regiments/index.htm there is no record of either Regiment being posted to Guernsey around 1841 - 1851. 

If William Mitchell Moore was discharged in 1851, then perhaps his son was born in Guernsey after he left the army - c. 1854.  So I think the family would probably not have been in Guernsey for either of the '41 or '51 censuses.
