Scottish census on Ancestry
« on: Monday 24 July 06 16:11 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know if Ancestry plan to release the 1851-1901 census? It would seem silly if they only had just the 1841 census and i refuse to buy credits for the Scotlands People site as with my big family the credits don't go far at all.

As I understand it, GROS was extremely surprised by the release of the 1841 index & transcription by Ancestry.  The images have not been licensed to any provider - they are only available from the ScotlandsPeople site or at New Register House.  There is no immediate likelihood of the images being released via Ancestry, but neither has it been ruled out completely in the future.

Ancestry say they intend to add further transcriptions of Scottish censuses but have made no decision which one will be next or when it will appear.

I personally use the free index where available on FreeCen to narrow down my searches in 1841.
