I have found a birth for a Rosina Griffey on Freebmd  1862, Bideford

Tough one !

There just isnt a Ros* anywhere using Bideford as a PoB 1871-1891 ...

No sign of an a yet trancribed marriage for a Frederick ...

There are 2 Fred's - however, both too young to be her father ... and one changes his name to Frank - altho he and his father William are the only Griffeys I bumped into who were Tailors ...

Bideford is a Griffey stronghold it seems....

I think you are looking for a (illegitimate?) lass who was either brought up by relations, or her mother (re)married- but if so, she isnt using Ros* as a christian name that I could see  .... and when she herself finally married perhaps she used another relatives name as her father to 'cover the trail' - seen this a few times !

I bet the birth cert shows no father - but a mothers name would help us pin things down ... HTH

I see that Rosina married in Pancras in late 1891, so she ought to have been in the area earlier in the year.

Do you have this census entry?  It might be worth noting it for future reference as they are the only Griffeys in town and it seems too much of a coincidence ...

Dave - thats the tailor I mentioned - in earlier years you will see his 2 sons ...

Alice was 1 of 3 lasses in 1861 Bideford who could have been Rosina's mother ....the Elizabeth is still a spinster and the Lucy marrioed a James Dallen - and they have disappeared too.

Marriage & Birth Cert is the only open angle I'd agree

Theres a Selina Griffey born Bideford Devon c1863 in 14 Victoria Villas, Willesden, Middlesex (Nursemaid for the Walker family) in the 1881 census. Cant find her on the other censuses, can anyone else? RG11/1363 Folio 33 Page 59

I suppose with a broad Devon accent Selina/Rosina could be misheard?

On second thoughts I think in 1871 shes in Clifton with parents Samuel  (a shipwright) and Mary (born "Bedford" Devon, transcribed as Suina Grifey)

Selina Griffey born Bideford was my great grandmother. She was one of 5 daughters of Samuel Griffey. I have data on them all.

Rosina Griffey is my great great grandmother, she is down as Hall in the censuses if that helps, On my grandfathers birth record it states Mother: Rosina Hall formally Griffey so I am assuming she married a Hall or changed her name Hall.
