Shirley Family
« on: Wednesday 26 July 06 12:17 BST (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for anyone who is or has family members with the surname Shirley from the Kirkby in Ashfield area.

My husband is trying to compile his family tree from Australia which is proving trying at time. His parent moved to Australia in 1969.

We would love to hear from anyone who is a relative (near or far) so we can get a lot more branches on our family tree.

Thanks

Kaylene  ;D

Hi

I am not a member of the family but I live in Nottingham. I work full time so I am busy but like to help people in Oz as they cannot nip down the road to the archives. I have the Nottm Fam Hist Soc CDs and can look up BMDs for you. What do you want to know?

Also welcome to Rootschat.

No worries, it just gives Jane a better idea of what dates to search the registers for :)

Are you wanting to trace the family back through the censuses, or do you already have all that?

Hi Heather

We have traced family through the censuses which of course leaves us with alot of questions lol.

We have quiet a bit of information on our older rellies its more the ones from 1901  on that were really stuck with.

In saying that there is a Kate Shirley in the 1901 census who is the daughter of  GG Grandfather Henry Shirley which we have been unable to trace since 1901.

There is also Elizabeth Shirley (nee Renshaw) which is Henry's widow in the 1901 census she has a daughter Florence with her.

We do know that Florence was born a few years after Henry's death so were gathering that the man Elizabeth is housekeeper to is the father even though it states he's not only because is early census he was a boarder within Elizabeths home.

LOL I hope that made sense.

Hi from Kirkby,
just happened across the site whilst searching for something else.
Made myself a member straight away.
Regarding your search, my parents used to live on Ellis street in the sixties which isnt far from Mary street and they may know your family as there are plenty of shirley's still around.

I'll let you know how I get on.
