Hi, Everyone,
I've recently come across a Mrs Mitty JOHNSON in a family Bible, with her death recorded in 1839 in the flyleaf.  As "Mitty" seems to be such a rare forename, and I have come across a baptism for a Mitty GREEN in 1762 in Colchester at St Mary The Virgin at the Wall, I am trying to put 2 and 2 together by imagining a marriage sometime around or after 1785 or so for a woman of this name and a groom with the JOHNSON surname.
It is a JOHNSON family Bible, and they all lived in Colchester for some time.
Does anyone have access to marriage records for this town at this time...?
Very best wishes,
keith

There is this one also.

Verlander Jacob married an A Mitty Ward 24 September 1818 St Giles Colchester

Frances :)

Brides in both marriages down as spinsters, does the 'A' in the  posting above mean another first name?

Hi, Frances and Dave (Francis),
This is getting almost as complicated as distinguishing between the various MITTY/MITTEY/WILLES/ELLIS conundrum in Colchester.  They even managed to mistranscribe MITTEY as MILLEY as a forename on freeBMD...
Anyway, another great piece of detective work, very well done!
Looks like the Mitty GREEN (bapt 1762) married a William WILLES, (or ELLIS) in 1784; then a daughter of theirs called Mitty ELLIS married a John JOHNSON in 1827.  That looks to fit the bill very nicely...
Very many thanks,
keith
