I am a Quinn who's family came from around the areas of Rafoarty, Ballintra, Laghy, Greaghs, Stranass.

My gr-grandfather James Quinn came over to the US in 1844 at 16 years old, but most of the family stayed in Ireland.

My family is connected to the Gallagher family (could this be your Gallacher?), and it's very possible we are talking the same families here.

Not much to work with because the names John and Mary were/are extremely common first names.  But I had several Quinns marry Gallaghers in the 1840's-1860's.

Do you have any more information regarding your John Quinn?  My g-g-grandfather was John Quinn.  We are not yet positive he was born in Donegal - it appears he was born in Tyrone, around Omagh, sometime around 1780.

I'll sure try to help you if I can!  If you need a list of my Quinn/Gallagher connections, I will be glad to provide them.  Most are from oral history handed down, but they came directly from the grandchildren and great grandchildren of these people, who are still in Ireland.

It's possible, especially if they were located in the general area of Ballintra, Donegal.

Here's what I have so far in my records:

Maggie Jane Quinn, born ca. 1875 (daughter of Patrick Quinn and Bridget Travers), married James Gallagher.

Her younger sister Mary Anne, married Johnnie Gallagher.  (We believe James and Johnnie were brothers)

Patrick Quinn, born ca 1865 (son of Edward Quinn and Catherine Cassidy) married Susan Gallagher.

And scattered here and there, we also have other Gallagher names that come up.

There was also another James Gallagher who married Catherine Quinn.  They lived in Ballintra, because their son was born there and baptized in 1854 at St. Bridgets Church.

Without any actual written records, it's hard to name them all.  But basically, if there was a Quinn and a Gallagher together, and they lived in the region around Ballintra, Laghy, Greaghs or other near towns, they are related to me somewhere.

Does this help at all??

Thanks Mary and Patty.  Mary it could be them because John was born 1868 does it just tell you the marriage dates and any chihldren because I suspect there would be lots of kids between those dates. Can you give me the address of that site please.   Patty the list you gave me does n't include my rellies but as you say they could lurking in there but not made the connection yet.  John moved over to Scotland and married in 1893.  Thanks for your help the wall is coming down brick by brick.

Thanks for that information Mary, I had that information when I started looking but as you know we make mistakes and I wanted it confirmed by another source.  It looks like it now.  Thanks for your help it was most welcome.
