Ireland 1901/US 1930 Census Lookup?
« on: Sunday 13 August 06 21:35 BST (UK) »
Hello,

Can somebody please have a look at some Censuses for me please?

My Grt Grandmother Margaret Malloy emmigrated to America to live from Ireland in about 1925. I do not know who she went with. She may have travelled with her parents or Siblings.

Does anybody have access to a Passenger list? I have teied Ellis Island but that Websites information stops just before when i would be needing it.

She was born in 1905, Birr, Offally, Ireland. Her birth Certificate being the only factual information i have, other than 'Family Stories.'

Her parents were John Molloy and Mary Jane Brown.

I know she had a younger brother James, and another brother (possibly older) called Patrick. She may very well have had a few more siblings.

In New York she lived with a family known to be her cousins called the 'Dunnes'.

If possible a 1901 Ireland Census search to see possible parents?

A 1930 USA Census search for her living in New York?, she may or may not be living with the Dunne Family.

If anbody could also have access to a marriage register in Ireland for her parents? Probably around 1900, i suppose in Birr, Offally.

I know i have asked a lot here, but if somebody can just help me with one of these, that would be just so great. I have been searching for a lead for years now, with no luck.

Hope you can help.

Jim

Jim,

I don't know if this is her or not.   I found a Margaret Malloy living in Hingham Township, Plymouth County, Mass on the 1930 census with a William N. Dunn, age 27 his wife Frances age 22 and their children Margaret & Barbara.  According to the census Margaret Malloy was a maid who immigrated about 1920.  As of the 1930 census she was a naturalized citizens.  It lists her birth as about 1900.  There is also a Clark Webb age 27 listed as living with them who is the brother-in-law to William Dunn.

There are several other Margaret Malloy's from Ireland as well on the 1930 census serving as maids but this is the only one living with a Dunn family.     :-\

Hi,

Thanks for doing that.

I don't think i her though - since listing this, i ralised there is some ore info i should have added.

When living in New York, she wrote a letter back home. Her address in New York was '150th Street, Whitestone?' Care of Dunne.
She may be living in this area in the census?

The Dunne family shed stayed with were Patrick and Elizabeth Dunne (Her Aunt & Uncle) and als her cousins Margaret,Patrick Jnr, Therese, Kieran.

Can you see this family onthe census?

Thanks again,

Jim

Jim,

Patrick & Elizabeth Dunne were living in Queens District #839, Queens County, NY on the 1930 census with their children:

Patrick, age 12
Margaret, age 9
Theresa, age 5
Kerian, age 2

It shows Patrick Dunne born 1886 in Ireland along with his parents. Elizabeth born 1889 in Ireland along with her parents.  Date of immigration for Patrick 1905 and for Elizabeth 1910.  Next door to Patrick is a Mary Horan age 52 born 1878 in Ireland with her niece Margaret Dunne age 22, born in Ireland about 1908 and  immigrated 1915.

There was a Margaret Malloy, age 22 born in Ireland about 1908 listed as a maid in the household of Robert & Elka Bamberger in New Rochelle, Westchester County, NY but no Margaret Malloy near her cousins in Manhattan.  This Margaret Malloy with the Bamberger listed her date of immigration as 1924.

Hope this information is better.

Hi,

Thats brillant! Thankyou!

Still unsure about the Margaret Molloy, but he Dunne family are certainly the right ones.

My problem is, I know Margaret Molloy went to America and was back by 1938 - she really could have gone anytime before then.

Thanks again
Jim

Hi again,

Just checked out Patrick Dunne's original ship passenger list on the EllisIsland website, he was travelling with a Horan with intentions to met another Horan.
I suspect his wife Elizabeth may have been a Horan?

Can i ask for another lookup please?

Maragaret Molloy's brother, Patrick Molloy and his wife Kathleen - all i know is they had two girls!

I presume he was born about 1905 again??? Any he may be living in New York??

Thanks

Jim

Hi again,

I don't know if you have access to the 1920 census?

Could you please look for Patrick Dunne & Eliabeth Dunne, probably with just the one child at this time, Patrick.

Also, i wonder if Thomas Brown would have been there in 1920?

Cheers

Jim
