1851 Census Peter EDE

I am going to post the family which appears directly above Henry Ede on the 1851 census. On first look this appears to be 2 seperate families but on closer inspection the thick black line that divides them has been partially scribbled through. They both have the same schedule number.  This is an attempt to explain the 2 'Heads'
I can't read the name of William's wife. It has been transcribed as Candy but I can't see that myself. It looks like Cazay which may be an attempt at Keziah except she was born in Surrey on the 1841

Living with Thomas(Carpenter) and Harriet Wren and family  we have

David Ede age 64 Unmarried Formerly Gentleman's servant b Dorking

This time he is recorded as Blind - not from birth

Art - if you look at the 1881 image and scroll to the far right of the entry you will see that he is recorded as blind

This information would tend to indicate that Henry and William are brothers and therefore this William married to Keziah (Reziah on marriage record) may not be the son of Thomas Ede and Ann Evans but the son of Henry Ede and Elizabeth Swan, Henry's parents.

On the other hand it may show that Henry was a son of Thomas and Ann that I've not located!!!

It never is straight forward or simple is it?

I've found a marriage of Sarah EDE d of William Ede to Henry Remnant aged 19 on the 15th Jul 1849 in Coldhabour nr Dorking

It appears from the Coldhabour Batch Numbers that there are a number of these EDE's over in Coldhabour from the mid 1840's

***I forgot to mention that the names Lucy and Alice have been passed down in my family right to the present day. They are EDE names and feature in many of the children in Dorking.
