This latest find in Brighton is like a clan gathering of EDE's from each of the places I have sightings. A very interesting collection and obviously these families are tied up somewhere.

There was one daughter of Richard Ede and Elizabeth Freeman called Sarah Elizabeth b 1829 and found in 1841 in Keymer. To date no further sightings have been made of her although there are a number of marriages before 1851 census. I have no idea whether she was born in Sussex or in Surrey.

Tricia

This could well be a son of the Peter who went to the States by an earlier marriage. There was in 1841 census in Keymer an Edward EDE aged 70, perhaps it was his son.  The only Edward of that age I found was a birth in Edburton in Sussex in 1769, son of a Henry Ede and Mary.

Still no word back from the States although the time difference will delay any reply if the person receives my email straight away. This person may be able to answer questions over Keymer EDEs. Then again perhaps he doesn't know where his Peter came from.

What a surprise you'll have for him!!!!

Do you want any of these chasing up on the 1861?

Hi Tricia!

Firstly before anything, I shall be forwarding your name for the next Honours list. You are a true lady and deserve recognition for all these efforts. I don't know how you do it! I'm suffering badly with this swollen foot and my eyes aren't much better this morning.

I'm still struggling with all this information and at this moment gather my thoughts to advise you. However, if you have time,  I would be most grateful for any look ups on those families where additional children would have appeared or the individual has married and started a family. It is a time when the children leave home very early and if you don't get their names before hand it's hard to know they existed.

Thanking you once again.
Very Best Regards

I mentioned early Sarah Elizabeth, the lost daughter of Richard Ede and Elizabeth Freeman, found in Keymer in 1841 aged 12 yrs. No place of birth known. She was born between sisters Jane Agnes and Lucy who were born in Sutton Wash Lincs, and Sutton Lincs. So unless the family returned to Dorking I believe she too would have been born in those parts.

Either she died or like her brothers and sisters married. I have all the marriages and 1851 census sightings for all the siblings but not her.

At BMD there is one marriage in Mar 1849 of a Sarah Ede in Grantham but it is unclear to whom she married as there are 2 entries given for her, Page 311 and Page 511. There is only an image for the Page 511 so I believe the Page 311 entry is incorrect.

Her brothers were working nearby in Kings Lynn and the grandmother was from Lincolnshire so I believe Grantham marriage  would most likely be her marriage.

Would there be a chance that you could look at this marriage record and check in the 1851 census to see if Sarah is recorded with one of these husbands.

I will sent by private message the names listed for the marriage.

Many thanks for any help solving this mystery when you have time.

Kind regards

Hi again, Art

I've been playing around with John and Sarah Cox for a while and can't find any supporting evidence.

In 1871 John Cox born Thornton is living alone in Melton Mowbray and dittoed from the previous entry as married but can't see a corresponding Sarah anywhere.

In 1851 John Cox born Thornton is living with parents in Brigg and in 1861 the nearest John Cox with correct age is recorded as born Brigg and is living in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire and is unmarried.

Still can't find Sarah in 1851 as Ede and born in Lincolnshire.

Sorry, Tricia

As regards those marriage images there is an image for the 311 reference and 4 possible spouses on the page. I'll have a little play with those but it's a bit hit and miss

No match for Sarah and any of those names. Unfortunately there are 6 females listed and only 4 males so the only way to find out is to send for the certificate.

Tricky lady, this one ;)

Blimey - last night there were ony 54 viewings of this post and today there are 300 - any of you looking for Sarah ;D ;D
