David Dixon Briggs-Born 1822/23
« on: Tuesday 15 August 06 00:28 BST (UK) »
Could someone please help me find David Dixon Briggs' birthplace and marriage.  From information obtained from his death certificate he was born in Boston c1822/23 and died in New Zealand 1907.  He appears to have married before leaving the US.

Any help much appreciated.

Due you have his spouse's name and approximate date and location of her birth?  Have you traced him on any USA census before leaving for NZ?  What about any children born in the USA?  Any information on his parents or his spouse's parents?  When did he immigrate to NZ?  All of these questions need to be answered before you can trace his marriage and possible birth in the USA.   :-\

Hello Shirley,

BMD records began being recorded in the State of Massachusetts in 1841
"See" All Birth, Marriage and Death records between 1841-1915 are held at the Massachusetts State Archives. http://www.sec.state.ma.us/arc/arcidx.htm

Perhaps, you may need to contact the Boston Library, to see if they could assist your pre 1841 research, further along?

All The Best

Sorry , I only know that David applied for a marriage license here in  NZ   and said he was  widower at  the time , which  was 1850.
He  came to NZ on  a whaling ship.  INDUSTRY.   The crew mutineed in the HOKIANGA Harbour.  He escaped along with  the Captan  and another person
He   later married a Maori   girl, who  died and then remarried an Ann Elizabeth Read.  12  children were born to him in  NZ
