ARNOLD - Lambeth completed
« on: Thursday 17 August 06 21:18 BST (UK) »
Hi
I wonder if you can help me.
I would like to know if the was a Dora & William Arnold
living at 1, Victoria  House
                 South Lambeth  in 1905
Also if it would give the names of any other people living in that house.
Thank you very much.
Regards Chris

Hi Chris,
The latest census is for 1901 and they are not there at that time.
There is only one Dorcus Arnold in Lambeth on that census and she is a daughter, mother Ellen a widower.  They are at The Mansions, Lambeth.
Not sure how you would find them in 1905 though, unless there is a directory for that year.
Do you have any other information on them - like when and where born?

Hi Couger
Sorry it's taken me so long to answer.
I had computer problems!
And I think your post must have been sent to the junk mailbox.
Anyway.
I am looking for my grandmothers sister Dora Ellen Arnold nee Steel she married William Arnold we think Lambeth.
She also at some point had her other sister Daisy Francis nee Steel living with her and also her husband Herbert William Francis who was a sailor.
Maybe Ellen Arnold was William Arnold's mother!
Thank you for answering I will have to keep looking.
Kind regards Christine

Hello

I'm not sure apart from looking at the electoral register for the area that you can find them in 1905.

However, I do notice that a William Arnold married a Dora Ellen Steel June 1/4 1893 in Witny which straddles the Berkshire/Oxfordshire/Gloucestershire boundaries.

Not sure if it is connected but there is a marriage for a Herbert William Francis to a Daisy Ruth Steele Sept 1/4 1905 in Lambeth.

Not sure what else to suggest, supposing you have them in the censuses.

Good luck
Regards
Biker

Hi Biker
Thank that's a great help.
I did not have Dora Ellen Steele marriage that brilliant.
Thank you very much for that.
Daisy has one son by Herbert William Francis
Son William Herbert Francis born 1907
But we don't know what happened to her husband maybe he was lost at sea?
She moved back to Cranborne Dorset were she was born.
Were she lived or married Samuel John Maddock
She then named her son William Herbert Maddock.
Her son did not know about his real father until Daisy was dying then she told him his father was Herbert William Francis. All very strange did she marry Samuel?
It's a bit difficult to find a marriage when you don't know what year to look.
Thanks for you help. kind regards Chris

Chris

Glad that helped.

Just thought I'd mention that Ancestry have a full index BMD online which is currently free http://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/bmd.aspx

Perhaps you could trawl for the birth and possible marriage and death of Herbert?

Good luck
