Marriage not found NSW.

3.John born 4 Aug 1901 - birth details sourced from naa file - enlistment,
4. Branda M. born 1904 all born Bombala NSW.

Q.When/where was her father born?
Q.Can a marriage be found between her parents c1886?
Q.Any births after 1905 and up to 1918 for parents?

I have had a really good look through Ancestry and all I can find is:

Sydney Sergent Merrifield
Birth Registered:  July/September 1861
District:  Tavistock, Devon
Index no:  5b 363

I cannot find any census returns or marriage.

I really am sorry that I can't find any other information.

There is a Sydney MERRIFIELD aged 9 in the 1871 census, living in Plymouth, Devon...I will transcribe in case it's of use.  Give me 5 mins

In 1881 it looks like the same Sydney MERRIFIELD is a medical student in London...I can't see him in 1891.

Just another thought...probably the best thing would be to buy a birth certificate for your Minni Minhinnick MERRIFIELD and see what her parents' names are.

I have looked at the assisted immigrants index on NSW Records online, but no joy there for Sydney MERRIFIELD.  He may well have come out here unassisted, perhaps sponsored, depending on the work he did.

I agree, that little girl got lumbered with a big name!!

Or, if you got Minni's death cert you would have her parent's names, plus details of her own children. Or marriage cert and you would get bride's and groom's parents.

I have found reference to an "S S MERRIFIELD" in the index of the following book:

A Social and Cultural History of Medicine in NSW - The Southern Tablelands and Cooma Monaro, Edited and Published by A J Proust, 10/38 National Circuit, Forrest ACT 2603

Unfortunately I don't have access to the book, but maybe it could be borrowed through your local library?
