I have a Janet Laird, born abt 1840 in Uphall, west Lothian, but her father and his family were born in Lanarkshire. Janet's parents emmigrated to the USA before this marriage you are interested in, but I have been unable to trace Janet in Pennsylvania. Was your Janet born around that time, or was her father Edward, mother Jane Beveridge?

I am certain the first posting has no connection to your search.

The coverage on the LDS website and all others gets better all the time, and within my lifetime the old records should eventually be posted.

While doing an LDS search, it brought up Utah as a possible eventual destination point for your ancestors.

Also, have you found the ship they travelled over on with Edward's occupation marked in the log, and also then try to find their naturalization record in the US, whether in Pennsylvania or Utah.

Thanks for those ideas.
I was given some info by a Laird family connection in the US who must have gone to the LDS centres etc. I don't think Utah was mentioned, but I'll start looking into it again.
