Hi, my mum told me her grandma lived at Toll Bar cottage, I googled it and found this and was astonished, my mum died recently and i know very little of our family history, I wondered if you know any later history of the occupants of the cottage. many thanks

Hi jts,
Welcome to Rootschat  :) , it really  depends on approx. what years they would have lived there, its possible to find the address in 1911 on the census, would that have been too early? Otherwise someone on Rootschat might have more local knowledge and it might be worth posting a surname ( no living persons please) to see if anyone can help.
I know its a very common name but does Evans mean anything to you?
Best wishes
Cathy
Added... I see you have Evans as a name interest  :)

Hi Cathy,

Gosh, that was quick, and a pleasant surprise, my mum's maiden name was Evans! How do I have Evans as a name interest and how do I look on the 1911 censos please?

Best wishes

Hi,
Sorry, you have nt got Evans as a name interest, lol , I was looking at the wrong profile :-[
Hopefully the family at the address in 1911 is your family, although it could be another Evans family.
We are not allowed to give 1911 look ups due to copyright , you can access it online ie. at www.findmypast.co.uk although there is a charge (PAYG).
The same family appears to be in the 1901 census at a different address.
Brook Street, LLanfyllin
John Jones  head  wid  87 Pauper                   Hirnant, Mont.
Sarah J Evans boarder mar 26  Soldiers wife   Oswestry Salop.
David George Evans "    her son  5                  Llanfyllin, Mont.
Sarah               "          her dau  4                "
Gertrude            "          her dau  15mos        "
RG13/5205  47/17

There would be more children,  Mary , Ethel , John and I think Elizabeth.
Does this ring a bell?
Father seems to be a John Owen Evans born LLanfyllin c 1873, his militia records appear on Findmypast too.
As Evans is a very prevalent name it is best to work back from what you know using resources such as www.freebmd.co.uk and getting certificates to verify relationships you are unsure of.
Lots of tips available on Rootschat and lots of friendly people willing to help if you get stuck.
After you make 3 posts you can send and recieve personal messages too.
Best wishes

Looking again , there are two or three addresses in the Llanfyllin registration district with Toll or Twll in the address so the above may not be your family but heres hoping!

Hi Cathy,

that is brilliant, what I need to do now I suspect is find my mum's birth certificate and the sketchy notes I made from information she gave to me, she did not really like to speak of her childhood as she was orphaned at about 11 years old and moved to live with different family members. She was an Evans, her mother's maiden name was Jones, the most common names in Wales!!!!!!!!! Though she did have a Granny Isaac and aunties who were Whiffens and Davies.
Thank you so much for your help,
jane
