Hi Southman2

Ah, the times in my youth I spent at Livingstone St. baths - they're gone now of course. Next time I'm in Birkenhead (next w/e perhaps) I'll have look see what's left of the street.

BTW - Birkenhead is now in Merseyside - it used to be in Cheshire rather than Lancashire.

Cheers

thanks Jean I have a modern day map of the area and have now seen an aerial photograph showing the modern houses now there. It is a mystery as to how she came to be born there as the familly comes from Maidstone in Kent and was there until at least 1871, Annie was then born in Birkenhead in 1873 and by 1876 they were back in Maidstone. Her father William worked in a brewery in Kent and so we wonder if he had moved to work in the brewery in Birkenhead which was very close to  Livingstone street. Perhaps we will never know.

Regards

Steve

Hi Steve,

My gran came from Lincolnshire this l didn't know when l started the tree, but her father died and her mother remarried a man born Birkenhead, where my mom and l were born. If l had known that she was from Lincs would have saved alot of time, just maybe you have a similar case with your Annie.

best of luck

Jean

Where have I been? - Greater Manchester and Cumbria for the past 25 years, so I might well be a little out of date  ;)

Especially when it comes to the confusion about which county Birkenhead and the Wirral are in. I've noticed the L41 postcode for Birkenhead has reverted to CH41!

I'd quite like to get a proper handle on this  :-\

I thought (but I'm open to correction) that Wirral was a metropolitan borough in the Metropolitan County of Merseyside. Birkenhead is part of that borough. Of course those are "modern" administrative units. When it comes to traditional county boundaries, Wirral and Birkenhead are (were?) in Cheshire. Never (to my knowledge) were either part of Lancashire.

Are you suggesting something's changed since the 1992 boundary changes brought such places as Ellesmere Port into Merseyside?

That explains it then :) In 1980's i think some ????? decided to take a chunk out of Cheshire and stick it onto Liverpool that was in Lancashire .This was done purely for a particular reason. However the people of Cheshire never took to the idea it coursed to many problems, and for years the powers that be fought to go back to Cheshire.Because you cant join two counties when they are separated by the river. Everything is now back in  Wirral  Ch. Birkenhead,Ellesmere Port, Wallasey, Bebington,Bromborough, Heswall, Hoylake,Neston,Tranmere,West Kirby.
Hope that helps you to catch up,dont get lost ;D
