Hi Mary and welcome to Rootschat,

Do you know what religion they were?

I ask because civil registration of non-RC marriages began about 1845 and so John and Mary might be included.

Hi RonnieG

thanks for the welcome. Not too sure of the religion as although the family have all been brought up as catholic we've recently found out that when James married in Liverpool in 1890 it was in a C of E church and all his children were brought up as C of E although we all thought grandad (his son) was a catholic!. Do you know how I can check those records you mention?.

many thanks, Mary
