dear rambler, thank you for that..i do know about Sarah cowell and not Mary Ann...i don't know where the Sarah bit came from, but there are no records of a marriage for Mary Ann...do you think they could have made a mistake??? James and Mary Ann's first child is called Sarah....also another problem i have is that i have James law (my GG grandfather) but his year of birth seems to range from 1818-1826, also there are so many James laws same years, same place but different parents..any idea of how i can make sure Ive got the right one???...many thanks...xx

I suppose it could be a mistake - I can't see a likely James/Sarah Law couple in Essex on censuses...  ???

In case it's a transcription error, why not try phoning the Saffron Walden reord office and asking them to check it out?  Local offices are often very helpful, and the worse they can say is no!  You really need that marriage cert in order to get back any further - as you say, there are too many possibilities for James without knowing his father's name/occupation.

Hi Mary,

www. blethyn.com
Just tried it and it is working. I am new to this site and found it hard to navigate. I can only seem to follow one side of a conversation, but after reading thro you post, like you, I am concern that I may have the wrong parents for James Law born abt 1826!
Sarah Ann Law Birth cert info ;
21st Nov 1850 Father James laboure
mother May Ann formmerly Cowell sined with a X of Mary
Born Union workhouse Saffron Walden

My aunt (86 and still going strong is her g grandather) has her oringinal baptism cert and I have a copy
Jan 12th 1851 abode Clavering so they must have got out of the workhouse after she was born. Alos have pics you may be interested in of Sarah Ann Sell her daughter.

hi jo...many thanks for that....ive managed to open your web page today, for some reason it wouldnt open yesterday....i would love any information you might have on this family....im a descendant of the LAW'S....i have a couple of trees going, one on GenesReunited and one on ancestry.com...the one on ancestry.com is called "THE LAW FAMILIES OF ESSEX" where im tracing every member of law's upto whom they married, so the mens side is continuous and the womans up to when she marries...so everything is welcome...i also have sarah ann's copy of birth certificate, plus if your interested all of sarah's siblings and many generations back, i think i have about nine generations from me...does your aunt remember any names of sarah's siblings? if so you can tell her im a descendant of sarah's brother abel.....like you im not great with my way around computers, but i do like how you have set up your web page....did this cost you? and could you tell me how you went about getting it set up...hope to hear from you soon....till then....xmaryx
