St Giles in the Wood - COCK c1697

If some kind person is going to the Barnstaple Records Office, they have there the original parish registers for St. Giles in the Wood.  As I live abroad, I have only had a couple of brief visits last year, and I am really keen to find a birth or baptism record of one of my ancestors.
James Cock was born c1697, and I'm trying to find out if his parents were Hugh Cock & Joan.  Due to the old-fashioned writing, I am taking a risk in how the name 'Cock' appears - more like 'Cofh' or similar.
If someone has the time, I would really appreciate the help.

I went to the RO today and looked at the micro fiche for 1695-1699 and it was all totally unreadable.Even had the staff helping but to no avail.

Thanks so much for trying.  We had the same problem when we were looking, so they brought out the original parish register for me.  Perhaps if you have time next visit you could ask if you could see it.
