Walton - help reading 1861 census
« on: Monday 11 September 06 17:05 BST (UK) »
HI all,

Have just found William Walton on 1861 census living in Hull with family. One of his daughter's (Mary Ann) is listed as married and a  soldier's wife' (I think) and has a different surname. She also has a daughter on same page (Lucy).

Can anyone hep reading what their surname is? Transcriber has listed it as 2 different names sunfoots and Linfoot - no help there then  ??? To be fair writing is abysmal!!

Ref: RG9/3591 Folio 3 Page 5.

Thanks
Mark

Hi,

The enumerator writes his `s` differently so I would say that it begins with an L and not an S.  Especially if you look at Lucy`s name.  Moving on from that it does look like Linfoot.

A William Linfoot and Mary Ann Walton appear on the same page of marriages for Sculcoates in December Qtr. 1856 Volume 9d 324.

Regards,
Mo

Hi Mo,

Thanks for your detective work.  :) I will cross check out the family in later censuses and see if  I can make the links.

Thank you - reading some of the census writing drives me to distraction,  :o

Cheers,
Mark
