CAT' - where are you seeing all that against Annie ?

I just looked at  'Annie Williams' and saw a simple reference to NOLAN 6d 551 - which neatly links 'em !

I believe Annie used both names. She was over 30 too.
I'd put my money on her indeed being married before.

Scroppers. Have a look at Pressdee for the same quarter  :)

You know what Tati - this has similarities to that other BMD thingy where the GRO corrected the 'wrong' birth entry .... or similar logic which turned out to be how they could best manipulate the Indices in later years to correct a 'problem'....

So as it seems Pressdee-Wotsit is also 6d 551 ..... it breaks the '2 couples per page' rule, so an anomoly is trying to be corrected !

The best way to find out whats going on is to approach the relevant Birmingham Registry Office and get them to cross-check their files ...

An individual can ONLY have ONE entry - if they were previously married that info is on the register ENTRY itself, eg WIDOW etc - not the Index .... [also thats what you see on Birth Certs 'previously Bloggs, formerly Smith ...' etc]

Hopefully someone with in depth knowledge of the processes involved can comment ?

I don't think they were breaking the holy  ;D  rule.

I just think she was known by 2 names. I have a widowed gggma who was registered the same way at her 2nd marriage (=maiden name + 1st married name)

Just added a bit above ... but what you say is news to me !

Legally, a married woman has to use her husbands name .... she can carry on using it as a widow and should when she remarries .... then she becomes 'Mrs NewName'    :D

Cheers Cat - yes, I'm now up to speed and as you will see above, debating how an individual can have more than ONE Marriage Index entry   ::)
