What does this mean please?

Hi, anyone know what freehold messuage means please, in relation to somebody obtaining a farm in 1841.

Freehold meant then what it means today - full title to real property.

Messuage means the farmhouse, outbuildings and land.

Hi, would it mean that the land would have actually been bought by the person or would it have been rented.
