"Little Deerhaugh" Monk Soham
« on: Sunday 17 September 06 08:37 BST (UK) »
Hi Out There

Has anyone heard of "Little Deerhaugh" Monk Soham

This has been given as the Birth & Death place of an ancestor John ALDRICH back around 1637.
He married at Cransford, children were born in Woodbridge & Stowmarket.

This information was passed down to me by persons now deceased but all other info has been accurate so far.

I don't know where to look for the baptism records.

Can anyone help

                                               Kim

I am pretty sure this should read Little Deperhaugh, but I have just spent the last half hour going through 'Suffolk Houses' and various other reference books trying to find something to substantiate my reply  ::)

The PRs for Monks Soham St Peter's run from 1557-1900 so you should be able to find baptism.

Back later if I can find more information

SM ...
Every time I find an ancestor,
I have to find two more!

SUFFOLK - Pendle, Stygall, Pipe, Fruer, Bridges, Fisk, Bellamy, Sparham - all link to  Framlingham
DERBY - Bridges and Frost (originally Framlingham/Parham)
NOTTINGHAM - Lambert & Selby
BERKSHIRE/then Hammersmith LDN - Fulker
LDN/MDX - Murray, Clancy, Broker, Hoskins, Marsden, Wilson, Sale

GGfather Michael Wilson born Cork, lived Fulham London - moved to Boston USA 1889, what happened next?

I got my wish to visit The Depperhaugh, the former home of Admiral Sir Baldwin Wake Walker, at Hoxne in Suffolk, and now a nursing home.

I found this reference on another message board.

Yes, the old house has been added to and is now a Nursing Home.

I think that probably Little Depperhaugh was another Hall or Manor House or Farm in the parish of Monks Soham

You can find more about the church in Monk Soham at http://www.suffolkchurches.co.uk/monksoham.html

Hi Suffolk Mawther

Thank you for your help with this, I appreciate your taking the time to look this up for me.

I was unable to find anything on "Little Deerhaugh" & was beginning to question the info passed down, although it has all proved to be pretty accurate so far.

                 Thanks again

http://www.onesuffolk.co.uk/HoxnePC/History/

this web site for Hoxne tells us more about the Admiral and his battles in the 1800s.  I will see if I can find anything more substantial tomorrow (or is that today  :D
