Can someone read this for me please?
« on: Tuesday 19 September 06 15:45 BST (UK) »
I got this image from ScotlandsPeople, but I can barely read it. I emailed them and they refunded my credits for viewing it, and also sent me an A3 photocopy of the original file, yet I still can't read it!!!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v436/eternalidol/random/emdc.jpg

I know what some of it says.

Name and surname -  Rank or Profession, and whether Single, Married or Widowed: Elizabeth Sutherland, Widow of William Sutherland, Saddler.

When and Where Died: 1936, July Thirteenth, 5:40am, 11 High Street Markinch.

Sex: F.

Age: 84 Years.

I can't read the next box along (I have an inkling of what some of it says). I can't read the cause of death either.

A bit embarrassing, but hopefully someone can help. :-[ :)

Hi Ostler to me it looks like
compounded fracture of left arm? Also Senility.
and MM Sutherland, son, present.
I am sure if I am wrong some one else will decipher the last word.
Anne.

Ostler

I agree with Anne re cause of death. In respect of her parents: Walter Mowat Farm Manager Deceased and Maria Davidson Mowat nee Millar? This could be her parents' marriage on IGI:

WALTER MOWAT  Marriages: Spouse: MARY MILLER
Marriage:  01 MAR 1850   Olrig, Caithness, Scotland

Again from IGI, children showing to Walter Mowat and Mary Millar:

1. JOHN MOWAT  Birth: 14 DEC 1863 Latheron, Caithness, Scotland
2. BENJAMIN MOWAT Birth: 22 FEB 1857 Latheron, Caithness, Scotland
3. ELISABETH MOWAT Birth: 19 FEB 1851 Christening: 11 MAR 1851 Olrig, Caithness, Scotland
4. JAMES MOWAT Birth: 22 SEP 1860 Latheron, Caithness, Scotland
5. MAGNUS MOWAT Birth: 21 APR 1855 Olrig, Caithness, Scotland
6. WALTER MOWAT Birth: 05 DEC 1865 Latheron, Caithness, Scotland
7. MARGARET MOWAT Birth: 20 JUL 1853 Christening: 03 OCT 1853 Olrig, Caithness, Scotland
8. MOWAT Female Birth: 19 JAN 1863 Latheron, Caithness, Scotland
9. MARY MOWAT  Birth: 04 JUL 1859 Latheron, Caithness, Scotland

You've got an 1855 birth cert there, no.5 Magnus. Brilliant year to look at birth certs! The first year of offical registration in Scotland and for that year only, the certs ran over two pages on the registers and included a wealth of additional info on the parents.

Regards.

Yes I thought those were the names of her parents, but I couldn't be sure. Thank you three ever so much, especially for Elizabeth Mowat's siblings!! Makes a lot of sense to me, if you know what I mean. ;)

re 1855 birth certificate, would I need to go to a records office specifically to look at it?

Thanks very much.

Although, dying of senility? Is that a common thing to see on death certificates of yore?

Also, of the Mowat children, one girl has no name... perhaps died during childbirth?

Senility or senile decay appears on a few of my death certs in England.
