It could be an area of houses or a single farm.  The different ways of finding out wuold be to have a look at census at the same time as your cert or trackdown a map of that time frame.  What year is the cert from?

I can't see anything on a modern map.

 :) It's on a birth certificate. 1865.  I couldn't see it on a modern map either.
Do you know of any good websites with maps of that date? I have a few other places that I would be interested in looking up as well.

www.old-maps.co.uk The Ordnance Survey map for Dumfriesshire is dated 1862, it finds Tundergarth ok and then you will need to view the large map and try to find the other name.  Scroll about a bit and keep opening a new enlarged view as I've had a quick glance and can't find Passfauld marked.

In the 1851 Census it looks like it was transcribed as DAUSFAULD. A Wilson family were living there at the time, with one grandson  Joseph BELL age 14. All born Tundergarth.
