Northumberland Fusiliers - WW1
« on: Thursday 21 September 06 19:11 BST (UK) »
Have just found out my great grandfather was in the above regiment and fought in the Battle of the Somme. I'd really like some more information that relates to him and what he may have done there but apart from general info I found on a website about the Somme I'm a little stuck. Has anybody any ideas where I can find out anymore information? (I tried A2A and got his medal card).

Thanks in advance.

Hi Annie

His name was Horace W Leeming (the W was, I believe, Walter). He was born in Leeds in 1895.

My auntie has a letter signed by the King to Horace Leeming thanking him for something he did during the Somme but we don't quite know what. We've never seen any medals or anything.

I know he survived the War but family rumour has it that he was very shell shocked afterwards, possibly suffering from PTSD? His wife died young of womb cancer so I believe it was all downhill from there.

Would be eternally grateful for any snippets or anything.

Kind regards
Jo

 Mack

Thank you so much. It's really appreciated.

I've been reading on here about sending off for people's service records so that's what I'll do next.

Thanks for your time.

Best wishes
Jo

You should also try the Great War Forum for more detailed information. A post on there will probably generate huge quantities of highly relevant information as it did for me. 1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/
