emigrating to america in 1638
« on: Saturday 23 September 06 16:20 BST (UK) »
Hi

I'm hoping someone could tell me how to search for someone to immigrated to america in 1638 on a ship called the Diligent.

The person i'm specifically looking for is a man named Samuel Packard. b. 1612 in Stonham Aspal, Suffolk. Married in 1634 to a elizabeth stream. And emigrated in the year 1638.
He also died in Bridgewater, Maine. - died in 1684

Is there any particular way of finding out about this ship.. or anything, did they have a boarding list ?

edit: Emigrated to America with wife and daughter Elizabeth.

Laura

There is some information on him at the Plymouth County, Mass
website:

also try this link:

If you do a google search of Samuel Packard, you should come up with some worthwhile information.----Genealiza

Hi Laura:

This is what was on the Diligent's list at folsomfamily.org. The spelling is as  you see it: Packer instead of Packard. And it looks as if there might have been a child. There are dots instead of a first name.

Samuel Packer of Wymondham, Norfolk

Mrs. Elizabeth Packer

…….Packer

Also, did you mean that he died in Bridgewater, Maine or Bridgewater, Massachusetts? They are two distinct towns.

Cheers,
John
