Sarah Buckingham (Eynsham)- Parents help pls

Hello all

Can you help me find Sarah's parents ?

Sarah Ovenall married Thomas Harpur at Eynsham 18 May 1827.  She was described as a Widow.

I found a marriage between a Charles Ovenal
and Sarah Buckingham in Eynsham on 22 Nov 1824.
I also found a burial for a Charles Ovenal on 2 Jun 1825.


My question is where did Sarah come from and who were her parents ?  How do I find out ?

I believe she was born c1805, possibly Hanborough or Eynsham.

Can anyone help ?

Hi Denise ...

The IGI lists two Sarah BUCKINGHAMs baptised in Eynsham around the right time - in 1808 and 1809.  (You can check these yourself on the LDS website.)

Also, from the Handborough PRs:

24 MAR 1805 - Sarah BUCKINGHAM, d. Jerem. & Lucy of Ensham

The baptisms of two siblings - Edmund in 1802, and Philip in 1804 - confirms that the father's name is Jeremiah.

I'm not sure how you're going to decide which is "your" Sarah - the OMI lists at least four Sarah BUCKINGHAMs marrying in Eynsham in the late 1820s/1830s.

In case you decide the Handborough one is the correct one, here is the parents' marriage:

01 MAR 1802 - Jeremiah BUCKINGHAM to Lucy LONG
Witnesses: Matthew SHEPHERD and Solomon LONG

I think I can also supply some further information on Lucy LONG (if these are the parents, and you want to follow this line).

I guess with a possibly birth year of 1805 , my next best step would be to look at the marriage entry to see if she was a minor when she married ?

She would only have been 19 when she married Charles in 1824, so perhaps they would have marked it as minor ?

The only other way is to take each of the Sarah marriages in turn and rule them out or possibly in.

Just wondering if you have the 1851 census entry - Thomas HARPER (born c1799) with wife Sarah (born c1807), and their children.  He is recorded as coming from Eynsham, she is from Coombe!
