Erdington
« on: Tuesday 26 September 06 20:19 BST (UK) »
My father was born in Westheath Road,Erdington in 1914. Could anyone let me know which Church of England Parish covered the area. Another brother died in that area in 1914 - would he have been buried in the churchyard or in a Municipal Cemetery serving the area?  Which cemetery did cover that area?

Many thanks for any help.

Hi Bill,

I'm sorry but I don't know the answer to your question re burial....but the Parish Church was St. Barnabas.

See this link for great pics of Erdington...including the church.

I was born just down the road from Erdington and went to Erdington Grammar School...about 150 years ago!

Many thanks for the information and the link.

My grandfather was  from the NE and worked for Mills (Munitions) amongst other things but returned on the outbreak of WW1 hence I have little knowledge of the Birmingham area. thanks again for the great link withe the pic of St Barnabas.

Hi Bill,

The momumental Inscriptions for St Barnabas can he found here
http://www.hunimex.com/warwick/mi/mi_brum_erdington.html

Or there is a large Municipal grave yard at Witton Cemetey which is really just up the road, If you google Witton Cemetery you will find links to the address, and if you know when your relations died you can phone them asking if they are buried there.  They are very helpful on the phone. (note i have emailed them myself a few times but not always got a reply).

Hope this helps
