Question about Yorkshire Coast Family History Fair
« on: Wednesday 27 September 06 14:16 BST (UK) »
Sorry to post a new thread about this, but I couldn't find a reply button on the original. I have never been to one of these (I'm new at this) but it sounds interesting, I just wondered what to expect. Is it just for people tracing Scarborough families?

The fair isn't just for people tracing Scarborough families - anything but.

There will be some Yorkshire oriented societies and traders there but you will also find people selling software, postcards, CDs covering the whole country (including census sets), booksellers and so on.

Modesty precludes me from saying where you will find the best bargains  :D :D

Hi All

Generally the For Sale Board is for posting notices only.

The best place to have a natter about this particular function is on the county board.

I will move this tread to the Yorkshire board.

Yes Peter - but the board name is "For Sale/Wanted/Events" not just "For Sale".

Placing a subject like this on a county board is likely to hide it from people who do not have research interests in that county but might still like to travel to the event.

In this case, Scarborough is a lot closer to some places in the East Riding than it is to places in the North Riding but the thread will now only be seen by people watching posts to do with the North Riding.

Regards,
Graham

Hi

The post by Kateblogs is a general question about what she may find at the Fair. Which you have answered quite well, and should be adequate.

The original post advertising the Fair is still there on the For Sale/Wanted/Events" board for everyone to see.

Agreed - but it also asks "Is it just for people tracing Scarborough families?" - the implication being that Kateblogs' interests do not lie in that area, which strengthens the argument for leaving the post on the Events Board rather than moving it to a Yorkshire one.

Thank you for your replies, I will try to come along, it sounds very interesting and Scarborough is only 90 minutes away.

Please accept my apologies for posting in the wrong place.
