Christopher Holding Illinois

This is a long shot as I don't really know whether Christopher Holding actually went to America, but some family members think he did.

He was born in 1866 St. Helens.  He appeared on the 1881 census in Eccleston Prescot with his parents, but could not be found in 1891.  He re-appears on the 1901 census in lodgings in St. Helens.

I would be very grateful for a check of the 1890 Illinois census to see if he is there.

The vast majority of the 1890 census for IL was destroyed.  Why IL in particular?  Can't find him on ships lists into NY.

In another message you mention his father was b. Scotland; have you checked the 1891 Scottish census for him?

Yes, we have looked in Scotland but can't find him there either.

Illinois was where some Holdings emigrated to originally I believe, but then they moved on.
