ALFORD/TILLEY - Curry Rivel

Any information welcome on Alford/Tilley families of Curry Rivel. Especially Samuel Burford Alford born about 1856 (Curry Rivel) and William Tilley born approx 1855, father of George Tilley born approx 1878 (both Curry Rivel)

Also any information on brothers/sisters of my mum, Emily Maud Tilley, born 23 Nov 1918 in Curry Rivel. She had about 10 siblings, Maurice (moved to Birmingham), Peter (Boreham Wood), Clarence, George (both lived in Curry Rivel in the '70s) but I don't know the names of the others. I would be delighted to be contacted by any relatives. My mum moved to Cheltenham in the 40's and died in 1972. Married to Reg Willis, 2 daughters - Sally and Sue.

With regard to the siblings of your mum, you could try searching in the full GRO indexes which are available free of charge on the Ancestry site. You will have to register with your name and email address if you have not already done so.

If you search in the complete birth index for the surname Tilley over an appropriate range of years and (from mid 1911) look for mother’s maiden name of Alford for births registered in Langport, I think you will find several which may be of interest to you.

It is a bit of a laborious process but very rewarding if you find what you are looking for.
