Quakers in Brighton
« on: Wednesday 04 October 06 15:16 BST (UK) »
Hi

My gggrandfather was supposed to come from a Quaker family.

His name was Jabez and his siblings were Maria, Jonathon, Mercy and Naomi.

I've attached a photo of him and I was wondering whether anyone could tell me about the Quakers in Brighton, when this photo was taken, do these names sound Quaker and does anyone recognise where the photo was taken?

Thanks

Red

Hi Red

2 things
[1]
Give me the full business name and address of the photographer (on the back or bottom of the photo) and hopefully my index of Victorian/Edwardian Photographers should be able to give you a more precise time slot.
[2]
The Quakers still have their meeting house just off Ship Street Brighton, so a letter to them might prove useful

Yours Roy G

Hi Roy

Thanks for your reply.

The photo I have has been made into a postcard - so there isn't a photographers name.

I'll write to the Brighton quakers.

Thanks again

Red

 ;D

Thanks Jan

I've had a look at the web pages - I can really imagine that the photo I have was taken inside the meeting house.

Cheers Red
