James HENDERSON Monquhitter
« on: Tuesday 18 April 06 12:27 BST (UK) »

I'd be really grateful for any help on James HENDERSON born about 1781 in

Monquhitter. SP have the birth of a James HENDERSON born 22/6/1780 in

Monquhitter  - father James HENDERSON which is a probable. I know that he

married Jannet STEIL but can't find a marriage date. In the 1841 and 1851

Census they are living in Garmond, Monquhitter and in the 1851 Census Jannet

is stated as being born in Old Pitsligo.

I can't find deaths for either of them so have to presume that they both died

pre 1855.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Elaine

I have a Janet Henderson in my tree (but that's her maiden name).  I came across the information for this Janet Henderson by mistake.  I have the following (although no marriage date):

James and Janet Stiel (sometimes spelled Steel or Steele):
Children:  Isabel Williams Henderson b. 12/29/1817 (Fyvie), Peter Henderson b. 7/17/1819 (Fyvie), James Henderson b. 4/14/1816 (Fyvie)
I also found a death cert for Janet w/date of Nov 18 1859 witnessed by John Henderson (father - Richard Steel/mother - Agnes Purves) in Ladykirk Berwick.

My Janet Henderson was born in Monquihitter -- is it possible that there is some confusion as to the Janet?

Hope that's helpful.

Hi Tanteka42,

Welcome to Rootschat  :)
The above children are my family...except it's Isabel Williamson. I'm descended from Peter born 1819.  There was also Euan b.1831 and Frederick b.1833.

I think that we probably do have 2 Janet Steel's here. I looked at the death certificate for Janet Henderson nee Steel died Ladykirk, Berwick ...the informant was her husband John.

Do you know who the parents of your Janet Henderson were? It's possible that she was related to James as according to the 1851 Census, he was born in Monquhitter too.

Elaine  :)
