Tracing Divorce papers
« on: Friday 06 October 06 09:33 BST (UK) »
Could someone point me in the right direction please? I am trying to find divorce papers in the hope of finding out who my real father was.  The year of the divorce is crucial to enable me to confirm this.  The divorce took place in the 1940's.

Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi,

At that time, divorce cases could also be heard in more local courts apart from London.  Have a look at these:

http://www.familyrecords.gov.uk/frc/research/divorcemain.htm

http://www.familyrecords.gov.uk/frc/pdfs/divorce_records.pdf
http://www.familyrecords.gov.uk/frc/pdfs/HTU_divorce_records.pdf
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/Leaflets/ri2289.htm

If you know where the divorce was finalised, then you could also check the local newspapers of the time to see if it was reported.
