Richard MULLENS - Mystery Man
« on: Saturday 07 October 06 04:47 BST (UK) »
Richard Mullens (Mullins) was convicted of larceny at Devon Assizes on 16/3/1818 and sentenced to 7yrs transportation (I have no details of the case).  Working from the information on his convict indents he was born in Bideford about 1792.  He arrived in VDL in 1820 and spent the next 26 years there until on 7/7/1846 he left Launceston, arrived in Portland, Victoria and promptly disappeared.

I have a theory that he may have headed back home and to back that up, slightly, are three references I found to a Richard Mullins.
1. 1861 census age 64 farm servant at North Molton
2. 1881 census age 86 a boarder at Landkey
3. Death Dec quarter 1882 at Barnstaple

Now I know that I'm drawing a few long bows but they sometimes hit the target.  I just hope this info may ring some bells with somebody.

Cheers

Bob

MMM Bob. Think you caught a cross wind here.  :'(  :'( We have two Richards who you have mixed up here.

One is born Pilton appears Swimbridge with wife Mary in 1841, 1851 and 1861, Swimbridge Widowed in 1871 and Landkey Widowed in 1881

The other one was born Burrington and is the one who is Widowed in North Molton in 1861

This Richard Mullins appears in 1851

Thanks for all that info Kris, looks like I missed the target altogether.

This bloke is a real mystery he didn't die anywhere that I know.
