Jane MARSHALL/DOUGLAS - Census Look-up Please
« on: Sunday 08 October 06 13:31 BST (UK) »
Could anyone let me have 1851, 1871 and 1891 census info for Jane Marshall (married name Douglas) please?

She was born c.1831-1834 in Keelby.

In 1853 she married Munby Douglas in Patrington ERY and in 1861 is aged 35, living in Out Newton, Easington, ERY with her husband, son Edward Douglas (aged 6 born Partrington ERY) and her sister Harriet (my direct ancestor).

In 1881 she is aged 50 and is back in Lincolnshire, living in East Halton and working as a housekeeper to William Jobson - she states that she's married but I'm not sure if that shouldn't read widowed?  ???

In 1901 she is aged 70, still in East Halton and living on her own means.  I believe I've got her death in 1907.

Thanks for any help.  :)

Thanks for the look-ups.  :)

I wonder where the husband went?  She seems pretty sure that she's not a widow.  I haven't found any trace of him after the 1861 census.

Jane's son Edward became a Police Constable (and later a Sargeant) in the Hull area.

Best wishes,
Jo.

Sorry, been looking for the errant Munby .... in 1891, Jane has lost 10 years, and is now declaring herself a Widow in East Halton .

Thanks for the 1891.

From the 1861 census Munby was quite a bit older than Jane - he was born c.1819 in Easington ERY.  I wonder if she knew she was a widow, or was just assuming that she probably was by this time.  ::)

I've searched for Munby (and variants such as Mundy) and haven't found anything on him yet.  He was a widower in 1851 and another RootsChatter found him in 1861 for me and then he seems to vanish. http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,132513.0.html
