David PEARCE - Wrestlingworth c1806
« on: Monday 09 October 06 15:41 BST (UK) »
I'm searching for any information on David Pearce born about 1806.  His wife was Elizabeth "??" and they lived in Wrestlingworth, Beds. where they had at least 3 children, Joseph (c1826), Sarah (c1828) & Catherine (c1831).

I'm keen to know anything at all about this family prior to these dates and especially Elizabeth's Maiden Name.

The family seem to have stayed in Wrestlingworth  for several generations so I would suspect that they both came from there originally.

Many thanks for any assistance in this.

Mike

Hi Mike

Virtually all of Beds parish records pre 1812 have been extracted onto the IGI at www.familysearch.org. There are no Pearces in Wrestlingworth, so either they were not baptised or they were from another parish.

The 1851 census is the first to give birthplace:

HO107/1753 folio 263A
Wrsetlingworth
David Pearce head married 50 Farm lab born Morden Cambs
Elizabeth Pearce wife 59 b Hatley Beds (Hatley St George is in Cambs, but Cockayne Hatley is in Beds)
Catherine Pearce dau unmarr 19 b Wrestlingworth

If you go to the Cambs FHS website at http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html you can consult the baptism index which will tell you David's parents, but you'd need to check the parish register to get the full entry.

David is shown as age 35 in 1841 but ages over 15 were rounded down to the nearest 5 below so he could have been aged between 35 and 39.

I can't see a marriage on the IGI but Cockayne Hatley only goes up to 1812, so you'll need to check the parish register as I suspect that's where the marriage might have taken place

Regards

David
