Does Jaffrey = Jeffrey?

I found a marriage record which looks like it might fit my husband's family but the spelling is Jaffrey not Jeffrey. Is this the same name? The record is for Killinchy, Down. The children are born in Belfast. Am I way off base?

hi, I noticed your message. I am researching a Jeffrey family from Killinchy, Down area and am wondering whether my family is connected to your husband's. So far I only have back to James Jeffrey, born abt. 1836 in Ireland. He was my gg-grandfather. He moved to Canada, probably with his family, and married Martha Carrs (sp?) McBride in 1865. Many of my Jeffreys married McBrides, both in Ireland and later in Canada. James probably came to Canada about 1848. If you have any information about James Jeffrey or his parents or siblings, I would be very happy to hear from you. Thanks!

I think I may have some information on this family. My husband's family is full of Jeffreys, McBrides and Bairds from Westmeath, Renfrew Co., Ontario who came from Ireland. I have the McBride Family Tree (1804-1939) which was published in 1939. Please let me know if you are interested in further information.
