Mcauley/Currie
« on: Tuesday 10 October 06 16:51 BST (UK) »
Hi I have a Donald Mcauley who married Ann Currie 13 Jan 1876 in Argyll, I think I have found two of t
their children Annie Currie Mcauley born? and Alexander born ?

Annie Curries parents were Archibald Currie and Ann Stirling.

Donalds parents were Donald Mcauley and Mary Turner.

Wonder if anyone can throw any light on these people for me.

Thanks in advance Helen

H Helen

There's only one birth showing between 1876-1900 for a Ann Currie McAulay and that was in Kinning Park, Glasgow City.

In respect of Ann Currie's and parents, can't see any siblings showing for her on IGI. For Donald, there is one potential brother's birth in Portnahaven, Duncan born 03 APR 1846 Portnahaven, Argyll, Scotland and for the father a birth year of 1814 also in Porthahaven (all are submitted entries rather than actual extracts)

Given the lack on info on IGI, your best route is probably through the censuses and death certs for both sets of parents available to view on Scotlands People.

Regards.

Helen

Have a look on FreeCen. There are a number of entries in Portnahaven for McAulay including one family with a father Duncan and sons Donald and Duncan. I'm thinking this might be a possibility for Donald (who married Mary Turner) at home with his family before his marriage to Mary Turner.

MCAULAY Duncan, 6o b. Argyllshire
MCAULAY Marion, 50 b. Argyllshire
MCAULAY Mary, 28,  b. Argyllshire
MCAULAY John, 25, b. Argyllshire
MCAULAY Donald, 20, b. Argyllshire
MCAULAY Marion, 15, b. Argyllshire
MCAULAY Catherine 13, b.Argyllshire
MCAULAY Duncan, 11 b. Argyllshire
MCAULAY Norman, 8, b. Argyllshire
MCAULAY Ann, 5, b. Argyllshire

There's also a death entry  for a Mary Turner/McAulay in Portnahaven in 1897 with a birth year of 1821.........so looking good for Portnahaven at the least!

Regards.

Try clicking on Portnahaven for 'Census place' (and nothing else) in the 1841 Census. Then Donald McAulay. You should get 5 entries, with the one I posted earlier age 20.

Hi,
My grandmother was Elsie Ferguson Bowie. Her Mother was Mary McAulay who married David Orr Bowie in 1913 in Glasgow. Mary McAulay’s mother  (my great-great grandmother) was Ann Currie who was married to Donald McAulay. I have many certificates documenting all of this if they could be of help to you. I am  for more information on Elsie and her husband John Campbell (married in 1940).
