Christian or Given naming patterns in Wales
« on: Sunday 15 October 06 07:53 BST (UK) »
Hi

In my Family Search I have found that in England the 1st born son was given the Christian name of  their father's father, the 2nd son their mother's fathers name, 1st born daughter the mother's mother Christian name, 2nd born daughter the father's mothers name.

Do you know if this naming pattern occurred in Wales in the 1800's, or if some other pattern was used when a child's Christian name was chosen

Hi Cass

It did happen but not too strictly in my experience.

The Scottish naming conventions would appear to be the most strictly adhered to and, even then, there were variations.
