Ballooly, Garvaghy - Coburn/Brown
« on: Thursday 19 October 06 06:41 BST (UK) »
I recently came across some entries in the IGI on familysearch.org that seem to be my family and I would be very grateful if someone is able to confirm them to parish records.

George COBURN born ~1809 Drumbanagher, Killevy, Armagh married - unknown date or place
Mary BROWN born ~1813 Bleary, Lurgan, Armagh  (I will post a separate topic in Armagh for their births) Mary died 1892 unknown place
George died 28 Sep 1857 and is buried in Kilkinamurry Presbyterian graveyard

Children:
James COBURN born ~1832 Corbet, Banbridge married Agnes Mary HENRY 1853 Knockgorm

George COBURN born 24 Jun 1834 Ballooly, Garvaghy married Jane MORRISON ~1854

Jane Eliza COBURN born ~1836 Ballooly, Garvaghy married Adam FERGUSON ~1866

Sarah COBURN born 18 Dec 1840 Ballooly, Garvaghy married John HENRY 1 Jan 1862

Mary COBURN born ~1842 Ballooly, Garvaghy married William FLANIGAN 1861 emigrated to Australia
(Witness at their marriage in Belfast was John HENRY - fiancee to Sarah married two months later)
George's occupation on Mary's marriage certificate was Farmer.  Mary's residence at time of marriage was Adelaide Place, Belfast (which I believe was a Ladies' boarding school).

The 1864 Griffiths Valuation shows:

George COBURN Balloolymore, Garvaghy (presumably the family farm handed down after his father's death?)
James COBURN Newry Street, Banbridge, Seapatrick

Many thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Hi,

You've probably seen that some of your Coburns appear on the Ros Davies County Down website- if not it may be worth checking it out,
Best Wishes,
Briege

Hi Julie,
We are related.   I think my grandmother's grandfather was Adam Ferguson who married Jane Eliza Coburn in 1866.  Did they marry in Bainbridge, Down, Ireland like I had thought?

What do you have?   It took me a long time to figure this one out, because my brother who did some genealogy for school wrote down Adan Ferguson and Mary Coburn for the wife....and I couldn't match it up, then I got some censuses stating that Adam was born in Scotland and not Ireland, but I think it's correct now and we are related if so.

My name is Forrest Pettengill.  If you want to contact me, my email is (*).

I am on ancestry.com as well, just look up my tree labeled "Pettengill_02_03".

I hope we get to talk....to see if you have any other information regarding this family line even further.   Thanks for posting this. Julie!
