Marriage 1824 and 1841, 1851 census-Jenkins-Completed
« on: Thursday 19 October 06 11:26 BST (UK) »
Greetings again,

I have a marriage - William Jenkins and Hannah Williams in 1824. Do records of this time give parents names, or birth place?

William's parents were William and Mary, but I need to find Mary's maiden name.

I don't have any names for Hannah. Rees and Catherine maybe?

Also, could someone look at census for years mentioned, please?

Children were Jenkin, Rees, Mary, Catherine, David.

David was supposedly born in LLangiwg.

Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

Do you have any birthdates or census for above?

The Glam Marriage Index up to 1837 only gives couples names and parish living when married, no other info.  Cannot locate the above 1824 marriage for names mentioned.  Possibly the index is not complete.

That's a shame. How can I find out who Hanna's parent were then? Also, Mary's maiden name?

William, father, was 45 children 15, 13, 11, 7, 4    Mother, I have no idea.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi Jamar,

Glamorgan Records Office would maybe be your answer, but you will need to know where to start to look for parish records, possibly here?

Anglican Parish Registers Held at the Glamorgan Record Office, Cardiff for Llangiwg

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/GLA/Llangiwg/

Can you give me a clue to what year William was 45, and can you put names to childrens' ages, also what area are we looking?  Any further info helps narrow to find your people.

There are many Jenkin/Jenkins families with names of above  ???

Hi there,
The childrens names are in my first posting. The ages in the last posting are in the same order.

William was 45 in 1841. Have just checked his death cert and he was in Australia at the time of the 1851 census.

I imagine the area is that which David was born in. The eldest son Jenkin was married in Neath in 1846.

I am also looking for the possible death of Hannah between 1837 and 1852.

Regards,

Jamjar

Hi Jamar,

Not having much luck with locating this family together in 1841.  I have found a Jenkin Jenkin around the right age living in Water Street, Neath.  There does not seem to be any family with him. no occ given, no knowing if he is yours  ???

Is it possible the family left before the 1841?

You can search BMD here for death of Hannah

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/

Good luck

Hi,

They were farmers, so I'd say they'd be on a farm in Glamorganshire.

They were still there, as Jenkin was married there in 1849.

The site you gave me does not seem to give any personal information, so one can't know which is their's.

I have searched every variation I know within the surrounding areas, and cannot find them  together in 1841 ??? Perhaps others will have more luck, but it is doubtful.

The BMD site gives the GRO ref numbers, you have to purchase the certs for additional info and hope it is correct.

Sorry but there is no other way I know  :-\ I only wish....this can be a very expensive hobby.

Info can be found on the IGI/familysearch.org site but unless it is extracted from records, not submitted, the info cannot be trusted.

I have also included a link above for the area David was born.

The only other is Glamorgan Records Office which may charge for look ups if you cannot get there in person, you can google for email address.

Hi there,
I checked out look ups on Ancestry.com. I put in all the names and ages and they were all there under Neath. You have to pay to view the actual entry, though.

Yes, it's expensive. I have all the certs for quite a few trees and I have purchased them from 5 countries. I still have 2 countries to go.

I'll be able to do it when I am over in the UK, I'm sure.

I do appreciate your help.
