You probably have to work back with what you know and see where the links may lie.

This looks like the marriage of Alice to Duncan from IGI:

ALICE M. GRIEVE  Marriages: Spouse:  DUNCAN CAMPBELL WILLISON
Marriage:  02 DEC 1873 Glenorchy And Inishail, Argyll, Scotland

Post official registration in Scotland from 1855, the marriage and death certs should show the names of the parents.

I'm not sure how much research you already have on the lines, but this is Alice and Duncan Willison in the 1881 Census, including Isabella who I assume went on to marry Robert Grieve in 1899 in Perth:

Jessie GRIEVE, mother-in-law, married, 62, farmer's wife, b. Bachanan, Stirling,
Margaret GRIEVE, visitor, unmarried, 34, farmer's daug., b. Dalmally, Argyll,
Agnes WILLISON, daugh., 3mnths, born Sanquhar,Dumfries
Alice M WILLISON, daugh., 3, b. Sanquhar,Dumfries
Allison WILLISON, wife, 29, b. Dalmally, Argyll
Duncan C. WILLISON, 33, Farmer Of 1600 Acres (Arable 150) Employ 3 Men & 4 Women, b. Douglas, Lanark
Isabella WILLISON,  daugh., 4, b. Sanquhar, Dumfries
Jessie M WILLISON, daugh., 5, b. Sanquhar, Dumfries

Address: Dalpeddar, Sanquhar, Dumfries.

With Alice's birth place and mother and sister's names from the 1881 Census, this looks like Alice's parents and siblings................and maybe the answer to your original question as to the connection with Alice, Marjory and Janet:

Father: John Grieve  Mother: Jessie Mitchell

1. ALISON GRIEVE  Birth: 03 DEC 1851 Glenorchy And Inishail, Argyll, Scotland
2. MARJORY GRIEVE Birth: 28 APR 1854 Glenorchy And Inishail, Argyll, Scotland
3. CHRISTINA GRIEVE Birth: 02 AUG 1844 Glenorchy And Inishail, Argyll, Scotland
4. ROBERT GRIEVE  Birth: 31 JAN 1848 Glenorchy And Inishail, Argyll, Scotland
5. MARGARET GRIEVE Birth: 07 APR 1846 Glenorchy And Inishail, Argyll, Scotland
6. JANET GRIEVE Birth: 23 DEC 1856 Glenorchy And Inishail, Argyll, Scotland

At present, the connection of these names seems to be to Isabella not Robert; Alice was Isabella's mother, Janet and Marjory were her aunts.

The golden rule of genealogy research....verify..verify!

So far so good with the names. However, I have just seen Robert and Isabella's marriage cert. and her parents are not Duncan and Alison but John WILLISON and Jessie Ann BETTS. Their marriage on IGI:

JOHN WILLISON     Marriages: Spouse: JESSIE ANNE BETT
Marriage: 28 NOV 1872 Crieff, Perth, Scotland

Only one child showing on IGI (records stop on IGI after 1874/5 except for submitted entries) From her age at marriage, Isabella was born 1874/5!:

ELISABETH WILLISON  Birth: 01 FEB 1874  Douglas, Lanark, Scotland
Parents: Father: JOHN WILLISON    Mother: JESSIE ANN BETT

Monica you are a star !
things are much clearer now!

Alice' s father could be an uncle to Robert Grieve!
that would explain why Janet(ta) and Marjory were visiting Robert's house as i found in the letter.
You see all i have is a letter , a piece of paper where my husband's father wrote the names of his father and grand-father and dates of birth
and where they lived and the willison family tree made by the only cousin
they seemed to keep in touch with.
So now i can get started thank you very much !
have a nice weekend
best regards

Nearly there on this bit of your puzzle!

This is Robert Grieve (Snr.) birth entry on IGI, a submitted entry not an actual extract from the Old Parish Registers:

Robert Grieve     Birth:  1777      Of Kieletar, Perth, Scotland
Marriages: Spouse: Margaret Johnston
Marriage:  1808  Of Kieletar, , Perth, Scotland

There is also another entry on IGI showing his birth year as 1773 and birth place of Moffat, Dumfries (which  may be more likely as you will see in my next post).  You would need to verify his place of birth (although this will not always be possible). On the 1841 Census in Killin, Robert is showing as being born outside of the county of Perth.

This is Robert and Margaret's 1841 Census entry:

Margaret Grieve abt 1791 b. Scotland
Mary Grieve    abt 1816 b. Perthshire, Scotland
Michael Grieve    abt 1821 b. Perthshire, Scotland
Robert Grieve    abt 1777 b. Scotland - FARMER

Civil Parish:     Killin
County:    Perthshire
Address:    Coilltor

In case you are not familiar with the 1841 Census, a couple of points to bear in mind:
1. No relationships given within the household
2. A yes/no answer given to whether they were born in or out of the County where the census was being done. As you can see Robert and Margaret are showing as being born outside of Perth.
3. Ages for everyone over the 15 were supposed to be rounded down to the nearest 5. Children under 15 were supposed to have their actual age noted.

So we now have the following children for Robert b. 1777 and Margaret Johnstone, from Census and IGI (a combination of actual extract from the OPRs and submitted records):

1. John Grieve  Birth: 02 APR 1805 Moffat, Dumfries, Scotland
2. ELIZABETH GRIEVE Christening: 19 MAY 1825 Killin, Perth, Scotland
12. MICHAL GRIEVE Christening: 29 OCT 1819 Killin, Perth, Scotland
13. MARGARET GRIEVE Birth: 05 FEB 1822 Killin, Perth, Scotland
14. MARY GRIEVE Christening: 15 JUL 1808 Killin, Perth, Scotland
15. JANE GRIEVE Christening: 30 JAN 1814 Killin, Perth, Scotland
16. JAMES GRIEVE Christening: 14 JUL 1810 Killin, Perth, Scotland
17. ALISON GRIEVE Christening: 20 OCT 1806 Killin, Perth, Scotland
18. WILLIAM GRIEVE Christening: 06 OCT 1815 Killin, Perth, Scotland
19. ROBERT GRIEVE Christening: 22 JUL 1817 Killin, Perth, Scotland
20. WALTER GRIEVE Christening: 19 MAR 1812 Killin, Perth, Scotland
21. JOHNSTON GRIEVE Christening: 28 FEB 1805 Killin, Perth, Scotland

By the way, in some entries, Margaret Johnston is down as 'Margaret OR Alison Johnston'.....maybe this is where the Alison name comes into the family?

Alison Grieve who married Duncan Willison:

Her parents were John Grieve and Jessie Mitchell as we now know. John was born in Moffat according the censuses......and was the son of Robert Grieve 1777 and Margaret Johnston, from his death cert in Perth in 1892. His death at age fits an 1805 birth year.

So, Alison Grieve Willison WAS a cousin to Robert Grieve b. 1868!

..............you might also find a family link between John Willison b. 1844, father of Isabella who married Robert in 1899, and Duncan Willison b. 1847, husband of Alison Grieve! Both are showing a Douglas, Lanark birth place. Given Duncan's middle name of Cambell, this could well be his/their parents' marriage:

JOHN WILLISON     Marriages: Spouse:  ISABELLA CAMPBELL
Marriage:  04 JUN 1843  Douglas, Lanark, Scotland

The GRIEVE and WILLISON families, from the little I have seen, appear to have been big farming families, it would not surprise me that the marriages down the line would be so inter-twinned!

My last post! I think Isabella Willison who married Robert in 1899 may have originally been christened Elizabeth. I also think the IGI birth entry I posted earlier may have been hers:

ELISABETH WILLISON  Birth: 01 FEB 1874  Douglas, Lanark, Scotland
Parents: Father: JOHN WILLISON    Mother: JESSIE ANN BETT

She is down in the 1881 Census as Ella, age 6 living with her family in Acharn Farm House, Killin, Perth.

In Scotland, just to make things more fun when researching, there are many name variants: Jane can be Jean, Janet can be Jessie, Daniel can be Donald and Elizabeth can be many versions including Isabella. Have a look at this link and you will get some idea:
