having a dilemma...
« on: Saturday 21 October 06 13:45 BST (UK) »
Im just starting out writing my book and i want to include family group sheets - i was doing my book on FTM but i increasingly found it to be restrictive - i cant include things i wanna put in in the right place...so i designed my own family group sheet on word - only problem is now i have to type out all the family info again into the word doc obviously as the two programs arent linked...thats ok for a few but im thinking its gonna get very hard worked after a while..so iv gone back to FTM. My main gripe with it is that you cant enter anything as indivuals...for instance you might only have one out of 8 kids baptisms but if you want to show that childs baptism on the family group sheet then you have to have the heading baptism under EVERY person on the page and that goes for anything you might wanna add just for one person...so now i dont know whether its better having the freedom to design it how i want and have the extra work of indutting dat or whether to have FTM do it all for me but in a very long winded non concise sort of way...

Any thoughts?

Hi Ali

If you want something tailor-made to your requirements then you will have to study HTML or use something like Frontpage Express.  Either way you will have to study some kind of scripting language so that you can adapt documents to suit your needs.

You could also download trial versions of other family tree programs to see if they are more flexible but I suspect you will run into similar problems with them.

hang on...iv just being having a play around wi the 'what to include' options - its all very complicated-  theres options lurking where you wouldnt expect them and not everything does what youd think it does!
managed to get baptisms to come on the sheet just for the children who iv recorded baptisms for...
