ROCHE immigration from Ireland to Canada - abt 1900
« on: Monday 23 October 06 06:26 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information on Roche family members who left Cork City, in Ireland, and came to Canada (Alberta??) in the late 1890s or the early 1900s.  Parents would have been John Roche and Angela McCarthy, who remained in Ireland - I think.  Thanks  M a r g e

Marge-
IGI lists 3 children born to a John Roche & Angela McCarthy:
-John Roche 26 June 1865 Cork, Cork, Ireland
-Timothy Roche 28 Aug.1871 Co.Cork, Ireland
-Mary Roche 5 Aug.1874 Cork, Cork, Ireland

Check Canadian Census records (1901, 1906, 1911) at automatedgenealogy.
Also try Alberta GenWeb and Ellis Island (in case they arrived in NY first and then travelled to Canada) if you know the names of the family.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks for your suggestions --I have not tried the Alberta GenWeb.  Have tried Ellis Island though.  John and Angela had a total of nine children -- John b 1865, Ann b b 1867, Michael b 1869, Timothy b 1871, Mary b 1874, Ellen b 1877, Anastasia b 1878, Patrick Joseph b 1882, and my grandmother Hanora b 1885.  I have traced Timothy, Anastasia, and of course my grandmother's families.  I was looking to see if any of my grandmother's siblings came to Canada, too.  She came in 1913 directly from Liverpool to Halifax.  I thought, just maybe, one of her siblings came over first.  :>)    M.

If you look at:

www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/textual/governmt/vstats/v_events.htm

You will see that a number of them appear to have lived and died in British Columbia.

Hi Beth.  Thanks for your suggestion -- I checked out the site, and a couple of the names looked like "maybe's --wrong age, but not off by that many years.  I will get the certs tomorrow from the Surrey Public Library, and check out the parentage.  I was really hoping that some the Roche descendants would be working on "their" family tree, and see my posting.  Maybe connect with my tree.  :>)  M a r g e
