hi...my 83 yr old aunty tells me my grandmother was born martha ann hartley in manchester  and is adamant that was her birth name....my grandmother married percy anson in about 1916/17 in liverpool...1st born was martha louise anson 1917....but when martha ann married percy her name on marriage licence is...martha ann ellis....can`t find any trace of martha ann hartley onthese dates anywhere....anyone any advice for me please....always hit a brick wall with martha ann hartley...regards...allan

Hi Allan,

Do you have a copy of Matha Ann and Percy's marriage certificate?  This will give the name of her father and hopefully her correct age and status (spinster/widow).  Using that info you can then start to look for her birth and find her on census.
