POOL Family - Portesham
« on: Monday 23 October 06 20:00 BST (UK) »
I am looking for information about my great, great grandfather Samuel Pool, born c1791 in ?Long Bredy.  I have found him on the 1841 census in Portesham,  listed as a baker with his family but he has disappeared, presumably dead in the 1851 census.  His son George married an Angelina Hutchin(g)s and moved to Plumstead Kent sometime after 1852.  any info gratefully received

Ancestry.co.uk lists 2 deaths of Samuel Pool on FreeBMD that could be relevent...

1842 Jul-Aug-Sep Chard Devon, Dorset, Somerset
1851 Oct-Nov-Dec Bridport (To 1955) Dorset

Bridport sounds more likely, although he ought to be in the census for 1851.
I don't have access to the older censuses - haven't plucked up the courage to pay for them yet.

http://www.dorset-opc.com/ is a good reference also - has a lot of parish listings.
I was unable to find any details of deaths for surname POOL though.

Happy hunting...
I am researching the following families:
Hurst / Payne - Leicestershire / Warwickshire / Worcestershire
Toon(e) - Leicestershire
Batchelor / Foster - Warwickshire / Northamptonshire
Hardy - Dorset

My web site has the family tree showing.  I am researching primarily the Payne, Hurst, Foster and Batchelor lines in the Midlands.

Hello Tony, thanks for that - I agree the Bridport death is more likely.  i have also searched the Dorset site and found notheing but Samuel is definetly not on the 1851 census - I know what you mean about the paying!!  I hope to go down to Dorset sometime and check the records in dorchester but thanks for your help - much appreciated  Margaret

Hi Alli, tks for that - I hope to go down to Dorset soon to actually look at the area so your info is very helpful.  I did know George, (my great grqandfather was lodging in Bridport at that time cos he married the daughter angelina.   they had a daughter Emily and then moved up to Plumstead.  Thanks again  tobytail
